I was born and raised in Midland, Texas.
Brought up by a single mother at an early age, I was driven to begin working hard to become an outstanding athlete, with an aim for the NFL.
The first sport I played was baseball, and I began playing football in 6th grade. By 8th grade, my running back skills were getting noticed by the high school coaches. My hard work paid off, and at Robert E. Lee High School, my teammates and I won three consecutive Texas 5A State Football Championships.
I also played baseball in high school and was drafted and played in the summer league for the Dodgers. But my real love was football. I never wanted to play for any college other than The University of Texas at Austin, so when the time came, I signed with the Longhorns without even looking at other colleges. After playing under Mack Brown for four years, I played professional football with the Chicago Bears, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the Green Bay Packers. Life after football has led me to a professional career in Business Development with Gold Financial Services.
I have been fortunate to have a successful career in sports and in the business world, but I want more than that. My life has had challenges; I’ve had ups and downs, hard times along with good times, mistakes along with second chances. I want to inspire underprivileged youth to know that they do not have to be shackled to their past or their present, and that with hard work and good decisions they can overcome obstacles and live up to their highest potential. That’s difficult to do in many kids’ lives, but with mentors to guide and motivate them, there is a path. NUFCED is devoted to this path, and to leading youth and their families in a positive direction to rewarding and fulfilling lives.
